Scarlet and Gold

There is a color explosion surrounding my world here in the southern part of the United States. Although cold weather is fast approaching I choose to enjoy the beauty of fall.  In this week of Thanksgiving I am so thankful for my home and family and all that God has blest us with.

This 1880’s children’s song captures the mood of fall…

“Come said the wind to the leaves one day, Come o’re the meadows and we will play.
Put on your dresses scarlet and gold, For summer is gone and the days grow cold.”

embracing change

“Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree.” Emily Bronte

oh the magic of the changing seasons,

as the leaves begin their yearly ritual of color explosion

winds begin to blow and leaves begin to fly;

the crisp, cool air signals

it’s time to settle in for the coming

days of seasonal changes

Memorial Day—USA

“Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service of the United States of America. Memorial Day was borne out of the Civil War and a desire to honor our dead. It was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11. “The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land,” he proclaimed. The date of Decoration Day, as he called it, was chosen because it wasn’t the anniversary of any particular battle.

On the first Decoration Day, General James Garfield made a speech at Arlington National Cemetery, and 5,000 participants decorated the graves of the 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers buried there.”  US Memorial Day

Art Licensing Show.com

One of the best investments I have made this year is joining ArtLicensingShow.com.   ALSC  is a protected portfolio site for licensing artists to connect with art directors, manufacturers and other artists.  Cherish Flieder , the founder, and the ALSC team are doing an amazing job with this site.  ALSC is the new show in the art licensing industry, and it is impressive!

Opportunities for moving forward with our goals come in many forms, and as doors of opportunity open it is wise to make clear decisions, chart a course and get busy. That is exactly what I have been doing in the last month.  My sketch books are full of ideas and new artwork is being created.  I will be uploading new work to my portfolio page on ALSC this week.

After spending years working in a totally different field, I am finding great joy playing with paints and a camera.
