embracing change

“Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree.” Emily Bronte

oh the magic of the changing seasons,

as the leaves begin their yearly ritual of color explosion

winds begin to blow and leaves begin to fly;

the crisp, cool air signals

it’s time to settle in for the coming

days of seasonal changes

Possibilities

it is always amazing how as the seasons change there is always something that blooms…

a new season of possibilities

the purple mums that looked like they might not make the hot, dry summer

are now reaching upward and bursting with color.  colorful proof of all the

possibilities that surround us each day.

Gratitude

Yesterday I was reading a blog post by artist Anne Marie Horner and she made this statement “I learned something very poignant recently. Studies have shown that the brain can not actually feel the emotions of anxiety and gratitude at the same time.  They are opposites.   So much so, that psychologists suggest writing down all the things you are grateful for each day as a way to get your brain on the healthier side.”

That struck a chord with me…and made me think about setting aside time each day to write about what I am grateful for, so I have a ‘grateful journal’ on my desktop to write in each day.

Today I thought I would take that a step further and suggest that doing fun things is another way to keep ourselves healthy. Even the smallest activity that takes us away from the mundane chores or tasks can lighten our mood, makes us smile, relax us and refresh us.

Give it some thought…maybe a fun list and a gratitude list can help all of us be healthier.

finding all the possibilities in today

January 6, 2015

sometimes it seems we turn around once and a year passes by without a moments notice. the days that looked like they stretched forever on the 2014 calendar suddenly were gone, a new year lies before us, and we know the moments and hours will pass much faster than we want.

to capture every day and live each moment with awareness we have to focus on now, this moment in time. when we look past all of these moments we fail to live and when we fail to live we find ourselves looking back and wondering ‘where did the time go’?

each day is truly a gift, a present to be opened with care and savored for each moment, each morsel of time.

so live, live in this moment, take each second and hold it tight, fill up each day with life…the life you want, not one in a magazine, a TV show or the one your neighbor has or your best friend or co-worker. live your life, let each moment, good and bad, keep you grounded in this day, the one in which you are present.

never borrow from tomorrow or look back at yesterday for what is past can’t be changed and borrowing from tomorrow depletes a new day of possibilities.

Collections of Thanksgiving

The beautiful colors that adorn the hillsides and line the roadways at this season of the year give us one last color explosion before the winter season arrives. We collect the leaves, acorns and pumpkins  to accent the spaces in our homes, and the splashes of reds, yellows, browns and all the colors in between give us a quilt of many colors to wrap up this season of Thanksgiving.

It is another reason to celebrate the beauty of the world in which we live and a special season to give Thanks for all our blessings.
